This policy explains how LifeLearn moderates the platform. It should be read with the Community Rules, Reporting and Complaints Policy and Safeguarding Policy.
1. How moderation works
LifeLearn uses a mix of:
- Publish-then-review — content created by members and providers goes live immediately and is flagged for admin review afterwards. This covers directory listings and listing edits, Member Offers, monthly Business Updates and showreels. Flagged items are reviewed as soon as practicable, in the priority order set out in section 2. Anything that breaches the Listing Standards or the Community Rules is amended or removed at that point.
- Reactive review — reports from members and visitors (see Reporting and Complaints Policy).
- Proactive checks — periodic review of community spaces, new accounts and review activity; automated filters for known-illegal material and spam patterns.
Because publication is immediate, the safeguards against illegal content do not depend on the review queue: automated filters and the reporting routes in section 1 run continuously, and anything caught under section 2 is actioned on identification rather than waiting its turn.
Moderation decisions are made by the LifeLearn admin team against the published rules — not against viewpoints. Discussion of home education law, local authority conduct and education policy is expressly protected, however critical, provided it stays lawful and civil.
2. Priorities
- Illegal content and child safety — removed immediately on identification; account permanently banned; referred to authorities where appropriate; evidence preserved.
- Safety risks — threats, harassment, doxxing, identifying children: removal and enforcement same working day where identified.
- Rule breaches — spam, off-channel advertising, misinformation-as-fact, review manipulation: standard enforcement ladder.
3. Enforcement ladder
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Content removal with reason given |
| 2 | Written warning |
| 3 | Temporary suspension (7–30 days) |
| 4 | Permanent ban |
Serious breaches — anything involving child safety, illegal content, credible threats, or badge fraud by a provider — go straight to permanent ban or listing removal. Providers: enforcement can apply to the listing, the Offers access, badges, or the account separately.
4. Transparency to the affected user
When we act on your content or account we tell you: what was actioned, which rule it breached, and how to appeal. The only exception is where notice would prejudice a criminal investigation or put someone at risk.
5. Appeals
Every enforcement decision can be appealed within 28 days — see the Reporting and Complaints Policy, section 4.
6. Moderator conduct
Moderators must not act on content in which they have a personal conflict, must record decisions, and must escalate safeguarding matters to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (see Safeguarding Policy) rather than resolving them alone.
7. Review of this policy
Reviewed at least annually, and after any significant incident or change in the law (including Ofcom codes of practice under the Online Safety Act 2023).
