Provider Declarations & Listing Standards

Effective date: 14 July 2026 · Last reviewed: 27 July 2026

This document sets out what our badges mean and what every listing must meet. It is published so families know exactly what has — and has not — been checked. Badges on LifeLearn are provider-declared: they reflect statements made by the provider about their own business. LifeLearn does not independently check them. Families remain responsible for their own checks — including asking to see DBS/PVG/AccessNI certificates and insurance documents directly.

1. Listing types

Type Meaning
Unclaimed Seeded from publicly available information. No badges. Marked “Unclaimed”. May be claimed, corrected or removed by the business at any time.
Claimed The business has confirmed control of the listing (email at the business domain, or a call-back to the published business contact).
With declarations Claimed listing where the provider has made one or more of the declarations below.

2. Provider declarations

Providers may declare the following on their listing. Every declaration badge displays with a “provider-declared, not independently checked by LifeLearn” note, and shows the date the declaration was made.

Badge What the provider is declaring
Provider-declared DBS / PVG / AccessNI The individual(s) delivering the service hold a current enhanced-level criminal-record check appropriate to their nation (DBS in England & Wales, PVG in Scotland, AccessNI in Northern Ireland).
Provider-declared insurance Current public liability insurance appropriate to the service.
Provider-declared qualifications The qualifications stated on the listing are held as described.
Provider-declared SEND experience Genuine experience supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities, as described.

Rules for declarations:

  1. A declaration is a statement of current fact. Making a false declaration is a serious breach of the Provider Terms and grounds for immediate listing removal.
  2. Providers must withdraw or update a declaration promptly if it stops being true — a lapsed policy, a revoked certificate, a barring decision, or a change of staff.
  3. We may ask a provider to show supporting evidence for any declaration at any time. Failure to respond within 14 days results in the badge being removed. Where evidence is shown, we record only the fact, date and outcome of the check — we do not retain document copies.
  4. Declarations must not be repeated in listing text in stronger terms than the badge itself (no “fully vetted”, no “LifeLearn approved”).

3. Listing content standards

Every listing must:

  1. Describe a real, currently operating service relevant to home-educating families in the UK.
  2. Be accurate: qualifications, experience, prices, age ranges and locations as claimed must be true and current.
  3. Use its correct taxonomy category (one primary of the nine directory categories).
  4. Contain no claims of accreditations or registrations not held, and no criminal-record-check or insurance claims outside the declaration badges.
  5. Contain no misleading urgency or fake scarcity, no keyword-stuffing, no content breaching the Community Rules.
  6. Ofsted-registrable provision must state its registration number or the exemption relied upon.
  7. Photos must be the provider’s own or licensed; photos including children require documented parental consent held by the provider.

4. Review and enforcement

New and claimed listings go live immediately and are reviewed against these standards afterwards. Breaches → correction request → badge/listing suspension → removal, per the Moderation Policy. A false declaration results in immediate listing removal.

5. Telling us things have changed

Providers must notify hello@lifelearn.co.uk promptly if a declared certificate is revoked or a barring decision made, insurance lapses, or the business ceases operating. Failure to do so is a serious breach of the Provider Terms.
