About LifeLearn

The road from our kitchen table to yours.

Built at home. Built for real families.

The starting point

LifeLearn started as a conversation over our kitchen table.

Like many home-educating families, we arrived with questions. Some were practical, some were exciting, and some were much harder than we expected.

Chapter one

Where it began

It started with the questions we kept asking.

Over time, we kept finding ourselves asking the same thing:

Why is this so difficult to find?

Not because home education itself felt impossible, but because information was scattered. Opportunities could be difficult to discover, recording learning could feel overwhelming, and so much seemed designed for people who already knew what they were doing.

LifeLearn grew from wanting to make that journey a little easier.

Chapter two

Born from experience

There has never been just one version of home education in our family.

We are a large home-educating family.

Some of our children have grown and flown the nest, some are right in the middle of the journey, and our youngest — well, she is into everything.

Home education changes with different ages, stages and children. It has changed with our family too.

LifeLearn was built from that experience — not from one perfect philosophy, and definitely not from having all the answers, but from living it.

LifeLearn has also been built entirely by us, from the ground up. What began as conversations around our own kitchen table gradually became months, and then years, of thinking, testing and working through what LifeLearn could become. We were fortunate that my other half already had the technical skills needed to design and develop the platform, while my own background in science and psychology helped shape the way we thought about learning, behaviour, curiosity and the needs of families.

Together, that meant we did not have to hand the idea over to an outside design or development team. There was no external agency behind it — just the two of us, a lot of determination, long nights, repeated testing, new ideas, discarded ideas, and many rounds of refining what worked.

We would build something, test it, question it, rethink it and try again. That process is really how LifeLearn came to life: not as a finished concept handed to someone else to create, but as something we have shaped ourselves, piece by piece, as our own experience and our understanding of what families might need has grown.

Different children. Different seasons. Different ways of learning.

Chapter three

We did not step away from education

LifeLearn was not built from stepping away from education; if anything, it came from caring about education deeply. We began home educating more than 14 years ago—not because it was something we had planned, but because we had run out of energy fighting a system that was failing our eldest son. He is neurodivergent and had been let down by both mainstream and special-school provision.

At a final meeting with the school and local authority, I tried to explain that his needs were not being met. Their response was, “So you’re opting to home educate?” That was the end of the meeting.

Until that moment, I had never considered home education. I didn’t know where to begin or where to find support. Nobody discussed EOTAS or flexi-schooling with me; I only learned about them years later.

Our family has also experienced severe school-based anxiety. We know what it is like to fight for support while watching your child struggle with the simplest things. We know what it is like to look at your child and think, “He’s fading away. Why am I doing this to him? What is all of this actually for?”

Home educating our eldest showed us that learning could look different. It gave us the confidence to take the same step for his brother. The change was immediate. It wasn’t easy or perfect, but we got our son back.

What began without a plan gave us the confidence to home educate all of our children.

Chapter four

We began asking questions

At the start, we didn’t know where to begin, what we were expected to do or where to find support. That experience stayed with us and led us to ask different questions about education.

The question was not whether education mattered, but what education could look like when it grew around real children and real life.

What happens when curiosity leads?

  • When cooking becomes maths.
  • When a museum visit becomes history, geography and conversation.
  • When a fascination with engines becomes engineering.
  • When a walk, a project or an unexpected interest becomes the beginning of something much bigger.

Those questions ultimately shaped LifeLearn: a place designed to give families the clear information, practical tools and human connection we needed when our own journey began.

Chapter six

Built for real families

Home education can be wonderful. It can also be completely overwhelming.

There are moments that feel exciting, moments that feel lonely, moments where you question yourself, and moments where the systems around you simply do not feel built with families like yours — or ours — in mind.

But learning does not only happen because somebody hands a child a timetable.

It happens because people stay curious, stay connected and keep moving forward.

LifeLearn was built to support that kind of learning.

Chapter seven

What we believe

  • Learning happens everywhere.

A conversation, a project, a day outside or something your child suddenly becomes fascinated by can all become part of their education.

  • There is no single right way.

Families, children and circumstances are different. LifeLearn gives you tools and possibilities without telling you what your home education should look like.

  • The parent stays in control.

LifeLearn can help you discover, organise, remember and connect.

    The decisions remain yours.

You are here

Still learning. Still building. Still home educating.

LifeLearn is not here to tell you how to home educate.

It is here to help you feel more confident building something that works for your child, your family and your life.

And LifeLearn is growing right alongside us.

You are very welcome to grow with us.

Real families. Real learning. Thoughtfully connected.
