The LifeLearn approach

One interest. Many connections. Endless possibilities.

Every family chooses the educational path that suits them. School is the right environment for many children. What home education changes is simply where learning begins.

School

The right environment for many

Structured lessons, specialist teachers and learning alongside classmates provide a clear framework that works well for millions of children.

Home education

A different starting point

The freedom to shape learning around the child — their interests, pace, strengths and questions — rather than asking the child to fit around the lesson.

The difference isn't simply where learning takes place. It's how learning begins.

School learning begins with
The subject
Maths in maths lessons. History in history lessons. Separate, timetabled blocks — practical for teaching many children at once.
Home education can begin with
A curiosity-led starting point
A child becomes fascinated by Ancient Egypt but avoids maths. Rather than separating the two, you bring them together.
Curiosity becomes the doorway

Mathematics simply walks through it.

One question — how did the Egyptians build the pyramids? — and suddenly geometry, measurement and ratio have a reason to exist. The child hasn't changed. Only the doorway into learning has.

The Great Pyramids at Giza
Learning that starts with a question, not a timetable
One interest, many subjects

Begin with Ancient Egypt.

What starts as an interest in history opens the door to everything else. Tap a subject to see how one question — how did the Egyptians build the pyramids? — leads there.

Instead of asking "how do we make them enjoy maths?", LifeLearn asks a different question: what do they already love — and how can maths become part of that story?

First letter from the council just landed — they want "evidence of suitable education." We've only been home educating 6 weeks. Anyone else had this so soon? Any advice on what to actually send back? 🙏

Create your LifeLearn group

If you run an established Facebook group for home-educating families and would like to create a LifeLearn group under the same community name, get in touch with us.

We recognise established community names, helping familiar groups and their administrators create a clear, trusted presence on LifeLearn.

Once we’ve confirmed that you’re an administrator of the existing group, you can create and run your LifeLearn group using that familiar name.

Your Facebook group remains entirely your own. Your LifeLearn group gives you an additional space to run your community — run by you, with you in control.

Creating a brand-new group instead? Every new group is reviewed before it goes live — here is exactly what you will see at each step.

Shown after you tap Create a Group

Community name protection

To protect established communities and keep LifeLearn safe from impersonation, all new group creations are reviewed by our team.

  • Starting a unique group? If your requested name isn’t currently used by an established community, it will be approved following our review.
  • Creating an official space for a group you manage? If your name matches an existing community elsewhere, you’ll simply enter a quick verification code to confirm you’re an admin.
  • What if a name isn’t available? If a name is reserved and you aren’t the admin, we’ll instantly offer smart alternative name suggestions — so you can still create your group without starting over.

Nothing is published while your name is being checked. Already run an established Facebook group? Use Tell us about your group above — it’s the same request, with the details we need to verify you.
